Dental health examinations in Great Yarmouth

Prevention is the foundation of a healthy smile. Our dental examinations look for early signs of problems so you and your family can keep your teeth and gums in good condition.

Whether you're due a routine check-up, feeling anxious about your smile or have tooth or jaw pain, we'll take a careful look and explain what we find in plain English.

Why regular check-ups matter

  • Spot decay, gum disease and signs of oral cancer early, when they are easier to treat
  • Keep an eye on your gum health to help prevent tooth loss
  • Check your bite and how your teeth meet
  • Get personal advice on looking after your teeth at home

How often should I have a check-up?

Every six months is generally recommended. Depending on your own dental health, your dentist may suggest a different interval.

After your examination

Depending on what we find, we may recommend:

  • Routine cleaning, such as a scale and polish
  • Treatment such as fillings or extractions, or a referral for orthodontic advice
  • Regular follow-ups to monitor your oral health

Step by step

What happens at your dental exam

These steps are a guide. Your own plan may differ, and your dentist will explain everything before you decide.

  1. 1

    Medical history

We start by going through your medical history, any medicines and any dental concerns.

  2. 2

    Visual examination

Your dentist checks your teeth, gums and mouth for signs of decay, disease or anything unusual.

  3. 3

    X-rays if needed

Digital x-rays may be taken to see between teeth and below the gum line.

  4. 4

    Gum health check

We measure the spaces between your teeth and gums to check they are healthy.

  5. 5

    Your treatment plan

Your dentist explains the findings, any recommendations and your options, including costs.
