Dental x-rays
Dental x-rays (radiographs) are images of your teeth and jaws. They let your dentist examine things that can't be seen during a routine check, such as tooth roots, the jawbone and the areas between teeth.
We use digital x-rays at our clinic in Hopton-on-Sea, so images are ready to view straight away and your dentist can talk you through them.
Why you might need an x-ray
- Find cavities, including between teeth
- Check the health of tooth roots and the surrounding bone
- Diagnose and monitor gum disease
- Check wisdom teeth and missing teeth
- Plan treatment such as crowns, bridges and root canal treatment
How often should I have x-rays?
If you're a new patient, your dentist will probably suggest x-rays unless you've had them very recently. This helps them check for hidden problems.
After that, x-rays are usually recommended every 6 to 24 months, depending on your history of decay, your age and the condition of your mouth.

We position you and place a small digital sensor in your mouth. The image goes straight to our computer.
